Tony was a custom home builder from 1980-1998.
Each home was personally designed by Tony
in unparalleled detail, down to handcrafting
all the trim, doors, kitchens, and floors.
In 2000, Tony reinvented himself.
He purchased a farm in the Penn Township Industrial Park just outside of Hanover, PA and established a sawmill. Tony sawed FAS Quality lumber for a few years until the market changed.
In 2003, he was asked to salvage a barn that was slated for demolition because of development,
and he never looked back.
The sawmill’s lumber yard at 34 Industrial Drive in Hanover, PA
is packed with one-of-a-kind material from barns and log houses
salvaged from all over Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Different wood varieties, sizes, and finishes are available,
and all wood is carefully refined by hand in the on-site sawmill.
Tony’s passion is creating distinctive flooring,
but he also specializes in fabricating beam systems using solid, antique beams
or crafting custom-made boxed beams.
Tony also can design custom mantles
and barn siding used for interior or exterior paneling to any specifications.
interest in wood craftsmanship began when he was young.
At the age of 14, he discovered an old building constructed from hand-hewn Chestnut logs that was collapsing from age
in the woods near his childhood home.
He dismantled the structure and dragged the pieces
back to his family farm, planning that someday he would
create kitchen cabinets from this unique material.
In 1979 at the age of 28, he began to build.
One of the first features of the home were the Chestnut
kitchen cabinets, salvaged from old wood and given new life.
He also builds heirloom furniture,
creating almost every piece in his own home.
Tony’s wood craftsmanship can be found in homes and businesses spanning the entire country from
New York to California. As a family owned and operated business, Baummer Sawmill
can assist in adding personalized, unique detail to any project.
